The VitalSigns Culture

What is a Company Culture?

Any group of people that spends time together toward a common goal automatically creates a culture. Sports teams, communities, street gangs, and even sets of friends build cultures, as do companies. If a company does not attempt to create and nurture a culture, one organically forms from the ground up which may, or may not, be good. Additionally, if a company develops a culture with selfish company goals in mind, it will never become real. As is often the case, the best solution lives in the middle. At VitalSigns, we create the framework and provide the tools to support a culture we want then allow it to organically grow within that framework based on the goals and values of our associates.

We are fully committed to a work-life balance that allows everyone to excel at work in a way that meets their desired lifestyle. We believe our work anywhere anytime philosophy brings out the best in people. We strive to understand the values of our associates and support them in all they do.

The Goals of Our Culture

While most companies set out to create a culture centered on valuing its people, many get lost along the way. Whether due to the physical size of the organization or a need to drive strategy and decisions toward profit, cultures often fall apart because of a lack of focus and intention. At VitalSigns, we know our culture is a collection of diverse individuals with a variety of values in life. Even with this, we remain committed to operating within a workplace environment that makes them each feel valued and rewarded in their role. We live now in an age of post-pandemic employment. Salary is no longer the top consideration of job seekers. In the new era, quality of life and company culture matter to people, which is why we want to come alongside our associates in finding the right combination of roles, benefits, and time commitment for them.

The Terminology of Our Culture (And Why It Matters)

A core piece of any culture is the language used to describe it. For example, VitalSigns does not have job descriptions. We have roles. This distinction matters to us because “job description” conjures a specific type of document in most people’s minds. One that simply does not accurately define employment at VitalSigns. We offer a variety of roles within our different teams, and each associate may choose to fill one or many of these roles at any given time. Associates may also change or add roles more easily at VitalSigns than many organizations because the concepts of departments and transfer requests do not exist. Nor do we require individuals to work on only one team, rather we encourage them to take on roles on a variety of teams if it appeals to them.

Here is some of the important terminology we use to define our culture:

  • Associates – As you may have noticed above, this is what we call people who work at VitalSigns
  • Roles– A particular set of responsibilities and associated tasks
  • Teams A collection of associates performing similar and/or related roles
  • Stand-Ups A tightly defined meeting designed to make the absolute best use of everyone’s time
  • Required Time – A specific day/time that a particular role must be at work (virtual) or onsite (physical); majority of the work required by our defined roles can be completed anytime from anywhere, however, some roles may have certain times where individuals must be available to meet, communicate with customers, travel onsite, etc.
